  1. rindeadsong asked: How about 2, 20, and 45? I love love love hearing about people's original characters and worlds, and your's seem like a lot of thought have been put into them~!

omitting Oleander from here on, unless I have a real answer to give. Since she’s the least developed I need to give her context more thought before I can even try to answer some of these.

    2. What are some personal problems that your characters are dealing with?

Lawrence: She’s only been a werewolf for a few weeks and has zero guidance and no idea what to expect. Even after she’s picked up by Elliot she struggles to reaffirm her humanity. She’s not sure what’s happening to her and doesn’t know if she can control it at all. Her panicked struggling and constant fear make her extremely anxious, and make it harder for her to control herself.

Nicola: She feels a lot of personal responsibility for her family, and since her transfer to the Academy she’s not had the time to check in on them as she would. Lately she’s just been sending her paychecks and dealing with her new responsibilities. She’s scared to visit even when she gets a day off, by now.

Melanie: General anxiety over whether or not she’ll have a future in academia. She does not want to go home to all the expectations her family has for her, she’s got a lot more she wants to do, and she’s terrified of going home and being bullied into settling down.

    20. What are some of your character’s fears? Are they irrational, or have they resulted from a particular situation?

Lawrence: She’s most afraid of losing her humanity. She doesn’t know to what extent her condition is going to effect her mind. Otherwise, a healthy fear of being discovered and outed. She also does her best to conceal the life she had before (Lawrence is her taken name), she doesn’t want to be recognized, or even known as the woman she was.

Nicola: Nico doesn’t have many attachments, it’s fair to say she’d be afraid to lose her family, or to lose her ability to support them. Otherwise she doesn’t feel strongly about her transfer (at first), though eventually she becomes invested enough in the work she and Mel do to fear being pulled away from it.
As far as her family ties, she justifies her fear with the loss of her brother.

Melanie: The fear weighing on her mind now is the same any student has leading up to an evaluation. She hopes she will do well enough to land a research position at the Academy, and so not have to go home and face her family.

    45. If there is a pop culture, what’s considered “cool”? If there’s no pop culture, what are some traditions that your characters follow that have been inherited from ancestors or the culture they were raised in?

oh my gosh this would be so extensive for Alamanac oh jeez. I’m going to omit answers for Melanie and Nico with the promise of a lengthy post on fashion and other trends in their respective countries, asap.

Lawrence: I’m thinking I’ll set this story in the 90’s, actually. It depends on how much my image of their clothing can fit into that time, more than anything. There’s no need for the most modern technology in this story so I might like to set it a couple decades back. I feel like less advanced technology would also help justify how Lawr manages to get away with having such a loose grip on her form.
So I guess I’m still struggling with the setting too much to be able to say what’s cool hahaha
